Unfortunately we have editors and pundits who measure competence on the serious scale– anyone who acts very serious is considered sage and very responible. Our editors do not do flippant.
So Trudeau’s comment that essentially points out that Canada is not a major player in the middle east was taken to show he was not serious enough to govern our nation. Our editors do not do flippant even when the situation is more absurd when you look at it from the opinion of most any other nation. admittedly. a man’s head had been sliced off and emotions were running high. Still, Canada was in no way directly involved and could only offer puny support to its allies.
But the fact remains that the degree of seriousness a candidate can emote is going to be the standard by which they are going to be judged in the coming election and Justin’s team needs to give him a do over, much as the conservatives gave Harper to change his image from a stiff handshake to a regular, shirt open hockey guy. Here I would suggest that Justin should grow a beard–always a sign of maturity– and perhaps paint in some furrows around the brow. Practice developing a gloomy face–even use some depression pills if necessary, Harper must have plenty of these, and talk earnestly about jobs, terrorism( yes its on the table now, thanks to our fearless leader)
And he should be ready to go–one caveat, he has to be very careful not to laugh no matter what Harper says– your dead serious now, never forget that, Justin.
